North Central Alabama Counties Removed from the Severe Thunderstorm Watch…Southern Counties Continue and a New Watch Issued

Potentially severe weather conditions continue to affect portions of Alabama, Northwest Florida, and Southwest Georgia.

The National Weather Service has canceled Severe Thunderstorm Watch 636 for 15 counties in Central Alabama, including major areas such as Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Hoover, Alabaster, Anniston, Clanton, Columbiana, Sylacauga, and Pell City. These areas will see an easing of conditions, with no further severe weather expected this evening.

However, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 636 remains in effect until 10 PM CDT for 16 other counties across Central Alabama, including Montgomery, Auburn, Phenix City, Selma, Prattville, Eufaula, Troy, Demopolis, Wetumpka, and Uniontown. Residents in these areas should remain alert as storms could produce damaging winds and hail into the evening hours.

Additionally, a new Severe Thunderstorm Watch 638 has been issued by the National Weather Service for parts of Southwest and South Central Alabama, including counties such as Butler, Conecuh, Covington, Crenshaw, Escambia, Monroe, Wilcox, and Clarke. This watch extends into Northwest Florida, covering Escambia, Okaloosa, and Santa Rosa counties, and is effective until 1 AM CDT Monday. Cities under this watch include Andalusia, Atmore, Greenville, Evergreen, Monroeville, Camden, Jackson, Brewton, Crestview, Destin, Pensacola, and Fort Walton Beach.

Tallahassee’s National Weather Service office has also issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch 638 for Southeast Alabama, parts of the Florida Panhandle, and South Georgia, which will remain in effect until 2 AM EDT (1 AM CDT) Monday. This includes counties like Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston in Alabama; Bay, Calhoun, Gadsden, Holmes, Jackson, Walton, and Washington in Florida; and a broad swath of 26 counties in Southwest Georgia, including cities like Dothan, Enterprise, Ozark, Panama City, Pensacola, Crestview, Valdosta, Moultrie, Albany, and Thomasville.

Residents in the affected areas should stay informed and take necessary precautions as these storms could bring damaging winds and hail. Continue to monitor conditions.
