Flash Flood Warning – Parts of Lamar Co. Until 11:30 PM

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Central Lamar County in west-central Alabama until 11:30 PM CDT.

At 8:32 PM CDT, thunderstorms producing heavy rain were detected by Doppler radar across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have already fallen, with additional rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 3 inches possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Hazard: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

Impact: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Locations that may experience flash flooding include Vernon, Sulligent, Bedford, Lamar County Airport, Blooming Grove, Crossville, Hightogy, Star, Lamar County Public Lake, and Melborne.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions: Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Stay safe!
