Sweltering, Searing, Scorching, Sizzling… No Matter How You Spin It, It’s HOT
As you head outside on this bright and beautiful Saturday, you will notice plenty of blue in the skies with only a small cloud or two dotting that scene. However, get ready for some hot temperatures this afternoon. 11 AM temperatures were already up in the upper 80s to the mid 90s, and highs will reach the upper 90s across the area this afternoon. Don’t expect much in the way of any cooling relief, as there is plenty of dry air across Central Alabama. A stray shower or two may be possible along and south of US 80 in the southern parts of the area, but everyone else stays dry… unless you have a pool or at one of my favorite places, Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. It may also become a little harder to breath in some locations…
CODE ORANGE AIR QUALITY ALERT FOR JEFFERSON & SHELBY COUNTIES
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management has issued an Air Quality Alert for Jefferson and Shelby Counties for Saturday, July 13. Ground-level ozone is expected to reach unhealthy levels for sensitive groups, especially children and people with asthma.
Skies will be clear to partly cloudy across Central Alabama tonight and through the overnight hours, with everyone remaining dry. Lows will only dip into the lower to mid 70s.
Sunday won’t be much different as the heat remains in place, but there will be a very small chance of a few isolated to scattered showers and storms during the afternoon. If you are roughly north of I-22 and I-20, your day will be dry. Chances slow increase as you move south into the central and southern parts of the area. Highs will once again top out in the upper 90s.
The good news is that there is some heat relief on the way, but you may have to wait until Wednesday as a cold front will be slowly moving our way and will bring much higher rain chances and cooler temperatures.
