Midday Nowcast: Some Strong Storms Remain Possible, Mainly to the South

Some afternoon storms are possible as a cold front approaches, and some of these storms could be strong producing damaging wind gusts and hail. It is not going to storm everywhere, as these will be mainly over the southern third of the state, along and south of Montgomery.

We are seeing a mix of sun and clouds across today with afternoon temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 80s.

BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For May 27th, the average high for Birmingham is 85° and the average low is 64°. The record high is 98° set in 1962, while the record low is 42° set in 1961. We average 0.16” of precipitation on this date, and the record value is 2.39” set in 1996.

REST OF THE WEEK: Tomorrow will be generally sunny and hot with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Then a cooling trend begins tomorrow night and cooler spots over North Alabama could reach the 50s early Thursday and Friday morning. Highs will be trending cooler as well going from the upper 80s into the low and mid 80s Wednesday through Friday, with a mainly sunny sky each day.

ROLLING INTO JUNE: Confidence is not especially high in the weekend forecast with model inconsistency. For now we will mention just a chance of scattered showers Saturday and Sunday, but understand the forecast could easily change. Highs will be in the mid 80s with lows in the mid 60s, right at average values for early June in Alabama.
