Tornado Watch Until 8 am for Portions of North/Central Alabama

| May 27, 2024 @ 1:25 am

A tornado watch has been issued for all of North Alabama, and portions of Central Alabama until 8 am this morning. Counties included in the watch are: Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties in North Alabama, and Blount, Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Walker, and Winston counties in Central Alabama.

A few tornadoes and a couple intense tornadoes possible, scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible, and isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible.

A band of strong-severe thunderstorms is expected to shift into the watch area through the remainder of the pre-dawn hours, while a few, more isolated cells form near the southern edge of the favorable warm-sector air that is relatively uncapped. These will pose a threat for a few tornadoes, several damaging to severe gusts, and isolated large hail.

A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
