Midday Nowcast: Good Friday, Great Weather

Certainly a chilly morning to start the day, but the dry air in place is warming up nicely and we are seeing temperatures surge into the 70s this afternoon. The sky is cobalt blue today and full of sunshine and the weather doesn’t get much better than this for this final Friday of March. Tonight, will be another chilly one with lows falling into the 40s.

ACROSS THE USA: Widespread gusty winds combined with dry conditions will support elevated to critical fire weather concerns across eastern New Mexico and much of the southern High Plains today; Critical fire weather conditions are also forecast in Guam. Later this evening, an Atmospheric River event will produce moderate to locally heavy rainfall over central and southern California through Saturday.

TOMORROW & EASTER SUNDAY: This will be nicest weekend of weather so far this year for Alabama, with sunny, pleasant afternoons. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s tomorrow, and likely low 80s on Sunday. For those sunrise services Sunday, it will be cool with temperatures in the mid 50s and there will be some clouds.

NEXT WEEK: Monday looks warm and dry with highs in the low to mid 80. Then, we will have some risk of rain and storms on Tuesday, and some storms could be strong. The Storm Prediction Center has the northern third of Alabama outlined in a risk of severe weather for Tuesday.

The air will be unstable, but it looks like the better dynamics will be well north of Alabama, but we will continue to watch trends in the coming days. For now, the main threat for Alabama would be damaging wind gusts. Dry and cooler air returns to Alabama Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the 60s, followed by 70s on Friday.
