The Midday Report — Clearing Skies, Windy, & a Chilly Night in Central Alabama

| March 23, 2024 @ 11:33 am

Right now, in Central Alabama, the rain has stopped, which is great news! We’re seeing some clearing up in the northwestern part of our area. But hold onto your hats, because the winds have picked up instead. They’re blowing at around 10-20 mph, with gusts reaching 25-30 mph. At 11 am, temperatures were in the mid 50s to mid 60s, with Haleyville being the coolest at 54º and Montgomery the warmest at 64º. Birmingham was right in the middle at 61º.

As we move through the afternoon and early evening, the skies will keep clearing up, and temperatures will rise to the lower 60s to lower 70s. It might get a bit chilly tonight, but don’t worry, the wind will calm down as the night goes on. Overnight, temperatures will drop to the mid 30s to lower 40s, and some places up north might see a bit of frost.

Sunday will be mostly sunny, though we might get some clouds moving in later in the day from the west. But no rain is expected with these clouds, and temperatures will reach the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Now, looking ahead to Monday night and Tuesday, we’ve got a new system rolling in. This might cause some flooding issues in the west and northwest parts of our area due to heavy rainfall. We’re talking about 3–4 inches in the extreme northwest, 1.5-3 inches along and north of I-59, and 0.5-1.5 inches elsewhere. Before sunrise on Tuesday, there might be a few strong storms in the southwest, and the areas there are under a Marginal Risk, which means there’s a small chance of severe weather. But overall, no severe weather is expected after that on Tuesday.

It’s crucial to stay alert and prepared during this time, especially as we enter the main focus of our severe weather season in Central Alabama. This means being weather aware and having a plan in place for any potential severe weather that may come our way. Keep an eye on weather updates and be ready to take action if necessary. Safety always comes first!
