Midday Nowcast: Another Gorgeous February Day
Another gorgeous day of weather across Alabama with plenty of sunshine, but some clouds are increasing from the south and west. We are seeing afternoon temperatures surging into the upper 60s. Tonight, will be chilly as lows fall into the 40s for most locations.
USA BRIEF: Two storm systems will bring locally heavy rain near the coast of the Pacific Northwest, and heavy high elevation snowfall into the Intermountain West through the weekend. A fast moving clipper-type storm will bring accumulating snow across the Great Lakes today and into New England tonight and Friday morning.
TOMORROW: Clouds will be increasing and we will bring in a chance of rain late Friday night ahead of a cold front. Moisture will be limited, and rain amounts should be 1/4 inch or less, in fact most of the state will be dry. The better chances for rain will be across the Tennessee Valley of the state. There is no risk of severe storms and no thunder is expected. Highs tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 60s.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Any rain will end early Saturday morning for most of the state, although lingering showers are possible during the afternoon and evening hours near the Gulf Coast. The day will be breezy and much colder with highs likely holding in the 40s all day. A brisk north wind will make it feel much colder. Sunday, we expect sunshine in full supply with highs in the low to mid 50s. Many communities will likely see a freeze early Sunday morning with widespread 20s in the forecast.
INTO NEXT WEEK: Temperatures rebound next week, with highs in the 65-75 degree range by mid-week. The weather will be fairly quiet. We could see a few isolated showers across the northern half of the state Tuesday, but a better chance of rain looks to arrive late Thursday and into Friday with another cold front. No signs of bitterly cold Arctic air or severe weather for Alabama the next 7-10 days.
