Midday Nowcast: Sunny Sky, Colder Day

Today is sunny and colder with highs in the 40s for most locations across the northern half of the state. More clouds than sunshine for Alabama tomorrow, as a cold core upper-level low moves into Alabama. Lows tonight will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s tomorrow.

THE “S” WORD: Not much change in the forecast as the cold core upper low will bring the chance of snow flurries to North Alabama tonight; rain showers during the day tomorrow and scattered snow showers tomorrow night. During the day tomorrow, temperatures will rise into the mid 40s, and so the showers will be all liquid. Then some snow showers are possible tomorrow night into early Saturday morning. The main chance of seeing a snowflakes will be over the northern third of the state, mainly along and north of Interstate 20. No travel impacts or accumulations are expected, except some grassy areas in those higher elevations of north and East Alabama.

WEEKEND WEATHER: It will be dry this weekend and Saturday looks to feature a clearing sky with highs in struggling to climb out of the 40s. Sunday will be sunny as well, and highs should make their way into the mid 50s for most locations. Morning lows will hovering around the freezing mark both morning.

RAIN RETURNS: A low will move through the state on Monday and into Tuesday. As it does, clouds and showers are expected to move through the state, nothing too heavy of widespread. It looks to be a quick hitting system, and will be in and out of here rather fast. Highs to begin the new year will be in the 40s, which are below average for early January. It looks like another round of rain will move into Alabama on Wednesday.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: FOOTBALL WEATHER: Saturday Auburn will take on Maryland in the Music City Bowl in Nashville (1p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly cloudy with temperatures in the 44-47 degree range during the game.

Monday, January 1, Alabama will face Michigan in the Rose Bowl (4p CT kickoff). Expect a mix of sun and clouds, and we will mention a small risk of a shower during the game (20-25 percent). Temperatures will be in the low 60s.
