| December 22, 2023 @ 10:35 am

WELCOME TO WINTER: Today is the first official full day of winter, and the weather isn’t that bad. A cold morning with 30s and 40s, but we should see highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s today. We are seeing a mix of sun and clouds across the state. Tomorrow will be dry and mild for late December. The sky will be partly sunny with a high in the mid to upper 60s.

ACROSS THE USA: The storm impacting Southern California will move inland across the Four-Corners region today. Heavy rainfall and potential for flash flooding are in the forecast, along with accumulating snow for the highest terrain locations. As this storm tracks east this weekend, rain and thunderstorms for the eastern Plains and Mississippi Valley, snow for western High Plains and gusty winds are expected.

CHRISTMAS EVE AND DAY: Clouds increase through the day Sunday, and rain moves into the southwest counties during the day. The rain will spread north and east through state and rain is likely statewide Sunday night and Monday. Some thunder is possible, but no severe thunderstorms are expected. Rain amounts will be around one inch for much of North/Central Alabama. The higher amounts of rainfall will be closer to the Gulf Coast.

REST OF WEEK: The rain will come to an end Monday night. The weather will be dry for the rest of the week with a cooling trend; highs will be in the 50s Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by 40s Thursday and Friday. Freezing temperatures are expected by the end of the week as well for morning lows. The days should feature more sunshine than clouds.
