Midday Nowcast: Passing Clouds; Dry Through Saturday
Today we are seeing a mix of sun and clouds with afternoon temperatures heading into the mid-50s. Tonight, expect lows around freezing with upper 20s to lower 30s. The rest of the week will continue to feature cold mornings, but daytime temperatures will be warmer, with most places in the 58-65 degree range by Friday afternoon. It will remain dry through Saturday across Alabama.
ACROSS THE USA: A Pacific storm will bring heavy to excessive rain to coastal southern California today into Friday. Flash and urban flooding will be possible as well as rock slides, mud slides, and debris flows over burn scars. Gusty winds are also expected. The Pacific storm will also bring heavy snow above 7000-8000 feet in the southern Sierra Nevada and San Bernardino County mountains.
NOT A WHITE CHRISTMAS, BUT A WET ONE: We will bring rain back to the forecast for Christmas Eve, with the more widespread rain arriving Sunday night and through the day Christmas Day on Monday. It won’t rain all night Sunday night or all day Monday, but periods of rain are likely with some potential for thunder in spots. No severe storms are expected. Highs will likely be in the upper 50s and low 60s. Rainfall amounts will be in the 1”-2” range for many locations.
REST OF 2023: Some showers could remain in the forecast Tuesday and Wednesday, but the weather looks dry for much of next week. Temperatures will range from the 50s and 60s for afternoon highs, while lows will range from the 20s to 40s at times.
