Midday Nowcast: Sunny, but Cold

Today is cold with highs in the 40s for the northern half of the state with 50s down south. Tonight, expect lows below freezing with upper 20s to lower 30s. The rest of the week will continue to feature lows in the 20s and 30s, but daytime temperatures will be warmer, with most places in the upper 50s to mid 60s by Friday afternoon.

ACROSS THE USA: Widespread minor to moderate river and areal flooding will continue across portions of the Northeast through today due to heavy rainfall from the coastal storm. A series of Pacific storms will impact the West Coast through much of the week with gusty winds, areas of heavy to excessive rainfall forecast over coastal southern California, and some mountain snow.

CHRISTMAS WEEKEND: Look for increasing clouds on Saturday, but it will remain dry. To our west, our next weather system will be organizing and we will bring in a chance of rain Christmas Eve, as moist air is pulled northward into the state. The more widespread rain looks to arrive Sunday night and will continue into Christmas Day on Monday. It won’t rain all night Sunday night or all day Monday, but periods of rain are likely with some potential for thunder in spots. No severe storms are expected. Highs will likely be in the upper 50s and low 60s all three days.

REST OF 2023: Still no signs of bitterly cold Arctic air for the Deep South, yes it will be cold, but very tolerable. As far as rainfall, showers should remain in the forecast Tuesday and Wednesday, but dry weather looks to return to end the week.
