Midday Nowcast: Dry Today; Rain Returns Tomorrow
Today is another mainly sunny day with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s across Alabama, overall a fine-looking Friday to end the work week. Clouds will increase tonight as the deep surface low develops in the Gulf of Mexico.
WEEKEND WEATHER: The deep surface low will track northeast across the Florida peninsula tomorrow, and spread rain into Alabama this weekend.
South of the low, severe storms will be possible for the state of Florida, but with the low south of Alabama, there is no risk of severe storms, and probably no thunder for the state. Tomorrow will be a cloudy day, and we expect periods of rain tomorrow, tomorrow night, and into early Sunday. The rain will be heavy at times, especially for the southern and eastern portions of the state, where rain amounts of 1-2 inches are possible. For the western and northern counties, amounts generally around 1/2 inch will be possible.
Highs tomorrow will be close to 60°, with 50s expected Sunday. Any lingering rain will end Sunday morning, and by Sunday afternoon, the rain should be out of the state. It will be breezy as well due to the pressure gradient force associated with this strong low pressure.
NEXT WEEK: The weather looks generally dry for much next week with colder temperatures. High in the 50s and with lows in the 30s, with some morning freezes expected by midweek.
CHRISTMAS WEEK: Long range guidance continues to suggest relatively mild Pacific air will cover much of the contiguous U.S. with temperatures a little above average for late December. Much of the U.S. will likely NOT see a White Christmas this year due to the milder air mass in place. Too early to tell if rain will be an issue this Christmas.
