Midday Nowcast: Plenty of Sunshine in the Alabama Sky

Today is another sunny day with highs in the upper 50s across North/Central Alabama. For the rest of the week, expect some moderation with highs rising from the 50s into the 60s. Lows will be in the 30s and 40s. The days will be mainly sunny, while nights with mainly clear.

USA BRIEF: A powerful system will continue to bring winter impacts to southern and eastern Alaska through Wednesday. A cold front moving across the Upper Great Lakes today and Wednesday will produce light to moderate lake effect snow, with the highest totals expected across Lake Ontario. Moderate to heavy snow is expected to impact portions of the Southern Rockies and High Plains tonight through Thursday.

WEEKEND WEATHER: Here is what we know; a surface low will develop in the northern Gulf of Mexico and could spread rain into Alabama this weekend. With the low to the south, there will be no threat of severe storms with this system. Highs will near 60° with lows in the 40s.

Here is what we don’t know yet; the track and placement of the low. The models are still struggling to agree as the European model keeps the low well to the south and east of Alabama, with very little rain here. The GFS (American) model shows a higher coverage of rain. For now, we are going to mention scattered rain in the forecast late Saturday night and Sunday, with the higher amounts to the south, closer to the coast. We will have much better clarity over the few days and we will continue to fine-tune the forecast the closer we get to the weekend.

NEXT WEEK: The weather looks generally dry for much next week with seasonal temperatures. High in the 50s and 60s, with lows in the 30s and 40s.
