Tornado Warning for Eastern Lee County; Latest on the Tornado Watch
Our line of storms over East Alabama has developed a kink in it over southwestern Lee County. That is worrisome as it could impart enough spin for a small tornado to occur. The NWS is watching is carefully as are we.
They have now issued a tornado warning for parts of Lee County. The worrisome rotation is approaching AL-51 north of Society Hill. It appears it will rotate northeastward and approach US-280 between Opelika and Smiths Station.
If you have any friends or relatives in that area, it would be a good time to wake them up.
If you’re in the polygon, go to a safe place, on the lowest floor of your home in a central room or closet. Put as many walls between you and the outside as you can. Protect your head with a helmet of some type. Take pillows, blankets or a mattress with you. Wear hard soled shoes and have a whistle.
Tornado watch remains in effect for areas along and ahead of the line of storms. They are shown in purple here:
