PTC 22 is Designated by the NHC
Invest 98-L, now brewing over the west-central Caribbean and showing signs of organization near Jamaica, has been designed Potential Tropical Cyclone 22 by the NHC and is likely to become Tropical Storm Vince soon, with favorable wind shear conditions aiding its development. Most models predict a northeastward path, bringing it close to or over Jamaica by Friday evening, then moving across eastern Cuba and western Haiti by Saturday morning. An acceleration is expected over the weekend, with the system passing the Turks and Caicos Islands on Saturday before heading into the open Atlantic. The main concern is heavy rainfall, posing risks of flash flooding and mudslides, particularly in Jamaica, central and eastern Cuba, and much of Hispaniola this week and into the weekend. Tropical storm conditions are possible in these areas, including the Turks and Caicos Islands and southeastern Bahamas, from late Friday through Saturday.
