Midday Nowcast: Sunny and Warm Days Continue

Sunny and dry weather continues across Alabama today and tomorrow. Highs will range from the upper 70s to lower 80s, while nights will remain cool with 40s and 50s in the forecast.

CHANGE BEGINS: The day Thursday looks dry, but clouds will be increasing ahead of a cold front, which will bring a good chance of light rain at times Thursday night and Friday. Not a big time rain event, but amounts of around 1/2 inch are possible statewide. We need a lot more, but this should at least settle the dust across Alabama. Highs Thursday will be in the upper 70s, but cooler air drops into Alabama with highs in the 60s on Friday.

COOLER WEEKEND WEATHER: The front will stall across the state this weekend, and that looks to keep the weather mainly cloudy, with the chance of some scattered showers both days. The weather will be cooler with highs in the 60s and lows in the upper 40s and low 50s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Periods of light rain are possible for the high school playoff games across the state Friday night with temperatures in the low 60s.

Saturday, Alabama travels to Lexington to take on Kentucky (11a CT kickoff). The sky will be mostly sunny with temperatures rising from near 52 at kickoff, to around 56 degrees by the final whistle.

UAB is also on the road; they will be in Annapolis MD play Navy (2:30p CT kickoff). It will be a great day for football; the sky will be sunny with temperatures falling from the mid 50s at kickoff, into the upper 40s by the fourth quarter.

Auburn will be in Fayetteville as they take on Arkansas (3:00p CT kickoff). The sky will be partly to mostly sunny with temperatures falling from the low 60s at kickoff, into the 50s by the fourth quarter.

NEXT WEEK: For now, not much change for the first half of next week with generally dry weather with seasonal temperatures; highs mostly in the 60s, and lows in the 40s. By midweek, some model suggest we could see increasing rain chances, but that remains over a week away.

IN THE TROPICS: The Atlantic Basin is quiet with no tropical cyclone development through the weekend. In fact, there are currently no active tropical cyclones in any basin around the world. The Atlantic hurricane season ends November 30th and the remaining names on list this year are Vince and Whitney.
