Midday Nowcast: Sunny, Dry Weather Continues
FINE FALL FRIDAY: Today is another sunny and gorgeous November day across Alabama. After the chilly start, temperatures are surging into the 60s over North Alabama, with low 70s for the southern counties of the state. Tonight will be clear with lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: The sky will be clear for the high school games across Alabama tonight with temperatures falling through the 50s.
WONDERFUL WEEKEND WEATHER: Dry weather continues over the weekend with a warming trend; highs will be in the 70s tomorrow and Sunday with a good supply of sunshine both days. Nights will be chilly with lows ranging from the upper 30s to lower 40s.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Tomorrow, UAB hosts Florida Atlantic at Protective Stadium in downtown Birmingham (2:00p CT kickoff). The sky will be sunny with temperatures in the low 70s.
Auburn travels to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt (3:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear with upper 60s at kickoff, dropping into the low 60s by the final whistle.
And, Alabama will host LSU tomorrow evening at Bryant-Denny Stadium (6:45p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling through the 60s. A perfect night for football in Tuscaloosa.
FALL BACK: Tomorrow night, don’t forget time changes as Daylight Saving Time ends early Sunday morning, and we fall back onto Standard Time. Good news, we get an extra hour of sleep, bad news, sunset Sunday afternoon will be at 4:51PM for Birmingham. Always a great time to check the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and change those filters in your HVAC systems.
NEXT WEEK: For the week, expect mainly sunny days with highs in the 70s, by midweek, some spots will be flirt with the lower 80s. Nights will be clear and fair with lows in the 40s and 50s. Overall the long dry spell continues, with no signs of beneficial rain expected the next 10-14 days across Alabama. We do note a few scattered showers are possible late in the week as the next front swings through the state, but certainly not the rain amounts we need.
IN THE TROPICS: Just one feature we are watching currently in the Western Caribbean Sea. A broad area of low pressure continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the western Caribbean Sea. Further development of this system appears unlikely before it moves inland over Central America tonight or on Saturday. Regardless of development, this system is expected to bring heavy rains over portions of Central America through the weekend. This rainfall could produce flash flooding, along with mudslides in areas of higher terrain. Formation chance through 7 days…low…10 percent.
The rest of the basin is quiet. Hurricane season ends November 30th and the remaining names on list this year are Vince and Whitney.
