Alabama Weather Update at 2:25 a.m.

| August 11, 2023 @ 2:27 am

Strong storms continue tonight across North and Central Alabama at this late hour.

The strongest are in Northern Fayette and northwestern Walker Counties. There probably is some hail in these, especially near Fayette. There is a flood advisory for Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Walker, and Winston counties. There are a couple of significant weather advisories covering these storms.

The storm that was approaching Columbus MS is now in southern Lamar and northern Pickens Counties. Over 60 lightning flashes per minutes in the storm west of Jasper.

Scattered smaller storms but still with very heavy rain are scatted along the I-20 corridor from the Birmingham area eastward to Heflin.

In the Huntsville area, very strong storms continue from near Athens to Huntsville. They may even be a tad more intense than the ones approaching the Birmingham area.

The storms are all below severe limits and nothing like those of Wednesday night.

They are moving southeast at 20-25 mph. They will reach downtown Birmingham about 3:30-3:45 a.m.

I will close out our coverage for the night but keep your warning sources close as you sleep. If warnings are issued we will be back.
