Alabama Weather Update at 2:22 p.m.: Timing Out the Storms
Satellite imagery this afternoon shows clearing skies across much of the state. The outflow from this morning’s early storms has pushed all the way into far South Alabama, clearing out skies after lowering temperatures and heat index values.
For that reason, all counties in Central Alabama have been removed from the Heat Advisory.
Temperatures are rising with the clearing, It is 90F at Prattville, 91F at Selma, 91F at Troy, but he rest of North and Central Alabama is in the 80s.
97F at Evergreen with a dew point of 70F making for a Heat Index of 104F. South Alabama still has their heat products in effect.
Radar shows that the last few showers have dissipated. I picked up 0.93″ here off I-459 at Acton Road, marking the third straight day with at least 3/4 of an inch of rain. St. Clair County racked up the most rainfall yesterday afternoon and evening with around 3 inches in western parts of the county. A CoCoRaHS station near Odenville was the biggest winner with 3.45″ of rain report.
And we are not finished with the rain. Only a few isolated showers through early evening tonight. But by 9-10 p.m., showers and storms will be showing up again over West Central Alabama. This activity will increase in coverage and intensity through the overnight hours. Some of the storms will be severe again with a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) in affect for much of North and Central Alabama. The greatest threat will be between 8pm – 1am. Damaging winds will be the concern. Heavy rain could cause local flooding issues. This activity will be moving out of East Central Alabama during the morning drive time on Friday.
More showers and storms will form tomorrow afternoon mainly over South Central Alabama. Some of those could be strong to severe as well.
And then Saturday will feature a dying complex of storms limping into Northwest Alabama around 7-8 am. These storms could redevelop over South Central Alabama Saturday afternoon.
