Excessive Heat Warning Expanded Across Central Alabama

The NWS in Birmingham has added several counties to the excessive heat warning across Central Alabama:

New counties include: Jefferson, Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Bibb, Shelby, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, and Barbour.

It is in effect until 9 p.m. CDT tonight.

Heat advisories continue for much of the area Monday as well.

Watching severe thunderstorms developing at this hour over northeastern Mississippi as well as towering cumulus development in the I-59 Corridor that is beginning to sprout showers. With high lapse rates and strong instability, these storms will quickly grow as well and have the potential to become severe.
