A Bedtime Look at Our Weather Situation

| August 5, 2023 @ 10:05 pm

As of 9:57 pm, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning continues in effect for portions of Fayette, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties until 10:30 pm. The rest of the storm activity, while loud and strong, are below severe criteria at this point.

Downdraft instabilities continue to be rather high, ranging from 700 to 1300 J/kg, which means damaging winds will remain possible with any storm that can feed off this energy and become severe. The good news is that the HRRR is now showing that the activity will be out of here by 2-3 am. Scattered activity looks to pick back up on Sunday afternoon. Maybe we can all get some good sleep in just a little bit.
