Sunday’s Weather Briefing — Hot with a Few Strong Storms Today
Nearly all of Central Alabama is under a Marginal Risk for severe storms today, especially from 12pm to 8pm, with the threats of damaging winds and quarter-size hail. The heat, combined with high humidity and some wind shear, will allow for some storms to reach severe criteria, especially with instability values running really high. Highs will top out in the mid to upper 90s for most, and a heat advisory is in effect for nearly all of Central Alabama until 9pm tonight, except for the first row of counties in the northern parts of the area.
Monday will be a much better and a little more comfortable as humidity levels will come down. We’ll have plenty of sunshine with highs in the lower to mid 90s.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny, but we’ll have to watch to see if any storms develop off to our northwest and move into the area during the late afternoon and evening hours. For now, rain chances look to be small. Highs in the mid 80s to the upper 90s.
Wednesday will be the same story as there is a small chance of some storms developing and moving into the area during the afternoon and evening hours. Otherwise, it will be mostly sunny with highs in the 90s.
Our pattern changes a little as our flow will change to out of the southwest on Thursday, and that will increase our humidity levels and will bring an increase to our scattered afternoon shower and storm chances. The GFS is painting a good bit of activity, but I believe that it is a little too aggressive. Highs in the 90s.
Heat levels rise on Friday once again, and we’ll only have a very small chance of an isolated shower or storm to cool us off for a few minutes. Highs in the mid 90s to right around or just over 100º.
And at the end of the forecast period on Saturday, it will be just a couple of degrees cooler, but nothing else really changes. It will be hot and humid with a very small chance of a few isolated showers and storms. Highs in the 90s.
Invest 96L is out there over the Central Tropical Atlantic, but is disorganized in its activity this morning. However, conditions will become more favorable for development, and we may see a depression form before mid-week. The good news is that only the fish will be pestered by this system as it will curve northward and stay away from any land at this point.
