Serious Flash Flooding in West Alabama, Eastern Mississippi

Several flash flood warnings continue at this hour across eastern Mississippi and western Alabama.

As much as 10 inches of rain may have fallen this morning over parts of Sumter County. Flooding is severe in York. Street flooding was reported in Livingston.

I-20/59 was closed in both directions at MM 4 for a time. The interstate has reopened. US-11 remains closed north of York due to swift water running across the highway.

The pink and purple areas are over 8 inches as indicated by radar. Falling over the past 24 hours.

Here is the radar showing current precipitation across Alabama.

The west Alabama activity is basically stationary, with additional storms rotating southward toward Sumter County, which will only exacerbate the flooding.

A flood watch is in effect through 7 p.m. for parts of West Alabama.
