New Severe Weather Outlook is Out

| June 25, 2023 @ 12:25 pm

The new Day One from the Storm Prediction Center is out and basically unchanged.

I think our think our thinking in the noon forecast discussion is on track.

Showers and starting to form over southern Tennessee and North and Northwest Alabama ahead of our first disturbance. There is a developing storm west of Jasper along the Walker/Fayette County Line.

Storms should build in the unstable atmosphere across North and Central Alabama this afternoon.

The instability is moderate to high across all of North and Central Alabama with the CAPE values becoming increasingly high the further west you go, perhaps hence the Walker/Fayette storm.

Bulk shear is weak across Alabama so the storms may the storms may not be very organized but they will still be capable of strong damagign winds in downburst. In fact, the downburst CAPE value are very high all across the area.

Hail does not appear to be a big problem for now. It may become so later.
