Really three waves of storms right now across Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

The first wave extends from near Huntsville to Albertville to west of Gadsden to Pell City to the Birmingham Metro at this hour. Occasional bright lightning and loud thunder with the storms in Jefferson County. There is a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Madison and Jackson Counties. There could be damaging winds with the storm moving into Jackson County. Baseball sized hail was just reported at Woodville in Jackson County.

For the Birmingham metro, wind gusts to 40 mph and penny size hail are possible. A flood advisory has been issued. 2-3 inches of rain per hour is falling across Jefferson County especially in the I-459 Corridor. These storms did bring down trees along the Fayette/Tuscaloosa county line earlier. Behind these storms, just showers across parts of Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Tuscaloosa, and Pickens Counties.

The second wave is over Mississippi and is a little more intense for now. It covers the area from Greenwood to Starkville down to Forest to Meridian down to Quitman. A couple of large severe thunderstorm warnings cover areas just west of Meridian and the Stonewall/Quitman areas. These storms produce a tornado 3 miles north of Bay Springs at 11:44 p.m. A mobile home was destroyed near Louin, MS on CR-16. Baseball sized hail in falling in Woodville.

The third wave is over eastern Louisiana now. A severe thunderstorm warning and a tornado warning is in effect for Caldwell Parish in NortheaST Louisiana. This is south of I-20 and Monroe around Columbia LA on US-165. This storm will move toward Winnsboro LA and eventually Port Gibson in western Mississippi. This storm is turning a little right and getting better organized so it will likely continue to produce severe weather along its path.

A tornado watch remains in effect for the western part of Alabama until 2 a.m. No indications whether it will be expanded in area or extended in time yet.
