Sunday Weather Briefing — Strong to Severe Storms on Father’s Day

| June 18, 2023 @ 6:59 am

We’re starting off with a dry morning across Central Alabama, but that will change shortly as rain and storms are not that far away from the AL/MS state line. We’ll have multiple rounds of storms today, with several of these storms becoming severe, with the main threats of damaging winds and large hail.

SPC has an Enhanced Risk up for the southern and southwestern parts of the area, with much of the rest of Central Alabama in a Slight Risk. The Enhanced Risk is up mainly for the round of storms that will move in tonight and through the overnight hours. Heavy rain will be possible as well, which may lead to some localized flooding issues. Highs in the mid 80s to the lower 90s.

More waves of storms are expected to move through on Monday, keeping us in a risk for severe storms across a good portion of the area. For now, a Slight Risk is up for the extreme southeastern parts of Central Alabama, while a Marginal Risk covers up to the I-59 corridor. Once again, damaging winds and hail will be the main threats. Highs in the 80s.

Starting on Tuesday, an upper level low will set up shop over the southeast that will keep rain and storms in the forecast, but the good news is that it will begin to lower the risk of stronger to severe storms. However, we can’t rule out one or two storms becoming severe over the extreme southern parts of the area. Highs in the 80s.

Wednesday will feature scattered showers and storms, with most of the activity occurring during the afternoon to early evening. No severe weather is expected at this time. Highs in the upper 70s to the mid 80s.

Thursday will be pretty much the same… Scattered showers and storms will be possible, with most of the activity taking place during the afternoon to early evening. Highs in the upper 70s to the lower 80s.

No change on Friday… Scattered showers and storms will be possible, with most of the activity taking place during the afternoon to early evening. Highs in the upper 70s to the lower 80s.

And at the end of the forecast period on Saturday… Scattered showers and storms will be possible again, with most of the action during the afternoon to early evening. Highs in the 80s.
