Midday Nowcast: Strong Storms and Tropical Mischief
Scattered thunderstorms will form this afternoon over the northern half of the state and they will be strong where they form. Also, we will be watching west of Alabama as yet another MCS will develop and dive southeast and could impact portions of Alabama overnight.
The SPC has much of the state included in a risk of severe storms today. While we wait and watch the storms today, we are seeing a mix of sun and clouds along with a high close to 90° this afternoon.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Unsettled weather continues and we expect scattered to numerous showers and storms tomorrow and Sunday across the state with highs in the 80s. Both days feature the risk of severe weather and the SPC has portions of Alabama outlined in a level one or level two risk.
Understand the weekend won’t be a wash-out, and the sun will be out at times. But, thunderstorms are likely at anytime, and they will be strong where they form with large hail and damaging winds the main threats.
NEXT WEEK: Not much change. We will have a good chance of a few passing showers or thunderstorms on a daily basis with a mix of sun and clouds…highs will hold in the 80s with a moisture laden airmass in place, and unusually strong upper winds over the region for mid-June.
BRET, IS THAT YOU?: A tropical wave located between the west coast of Africa and the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear to be conducive for gradual development, and a tropical depression could form during the early to middle portions of next week while the system moves westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic. Formation chance through 48 hours…low…10 percent. Formation chance through 7 days…medium…50 percent.
