Army aviation: honoring the past, transforming for the future

Some two decades after the first U.S. Army helicopter units arrived in Vietnam, Army aviation became a branch, on April 12, 1983. As the Army celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the aviation branch with the theme “Honoring the past and transforming for the future,” the voices of former and current leaders and aviators help tell the story of this “new” combat arm.
Army aviation’s home is at Alabama’s Fort Novosel, formerly Fort Rucker.
