The Saturday Mid-Afternoon Report — Severe Storms Possible Tonight Through Much of Sunday

Skies are mostly sunny across the area, with the only clouds being fair-weather cumulus clouds floating overhead. Temperatures as of 2 pm were in the mid 70s to right around 90 degrees. The hot spot was Eufaula at 90º (may be an error). The cool spot was Haleyville at 76º. Birmingham was at 81º.

Skies will continue to be mostly clear to partly cloudy through the rest of the daylight hours, with a very small chance of a shower or storm south of the I-85 corridor. Highs in the upper 70s to the upper 80s. Showers and storms may develop during the overnight hours along and south of I-20, but overall chances remain small. If they do, a few strong to severe storms may be possible, mainly south of a line from Aliceville to Gardendale to Hokes Bluff. Timing will be from 12 am to 7 am. Damaging winds will be the main threat, but some hail and a brief tornado can’t be ruled out. The rest of the area stays dry, with lows in the lower 50s to the mid 60s.

Unfortunately, Sunday now looks to have the potential to be a quite stormy day across Central Alabama. An Enhanced Risk for severe storms is up for locations south and west of a line from Boligee to Wetumpka to Pike Road. A Slight Risk covers the rest of the southern half of the area, from Geiger to Montevallo to Lineville. A Marginal Risk extends northward of that to a line from Vernon to Garden City to Cedar Bluff. All modes of severe weather will be possible, with a threat of a stronger tornado in the Enhanced Risk locations. Timing looks to be from early morning through the evening, as this looks to affect the area in multiple rounds. Highs in the mid to upper 70s.
