Areal Flood Warning — Parts of Colbert, Lauderdale Co. Until 8:30 pm

…FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 PM CST THIS EVENING…

* WHAT…Urban area and Small stream flooding caused by excessive
rainfall is expected.

* WHERE…A portion of northwest Alabama, including the following
counties, Colbert and Lauderdale.

* WHEN…Until 830 PM CST.

* IMPACTS…Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 522 PM CST, Heavy rain has been ongoing in Colbert and
Lauderdale Counties due to thunderstorms. At 512 PM,
emergency management reported water over the road on Hwy 157
and County Rd. 57. Flooding is already occurring. Between 1
and 2 inches of rain have fallen.
– Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the
warned area.
– Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Florence, Cherokee, St. Florian, Underwood-Petersville,
Oakland, Threet, Wright, Zip City, Mt Hester, Riverton,
Margerum, Malone, Allsboro and Green Hill.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
