Light Snow Across Northern Mississippi Moving into Northwest Alabama: No Major Impacts Expected

| December 26, 2022 @ 1:21 pm

An upper-level disturbance passing to our north today bas brought clouds to much of North Alabama and light snow is falling across the northern quarter of Mississippi at this hour.

One-half inch of snow was reported near Tunica earlier and there have been reports of a dusting in spots across North Mississippi, including Boonville. Highway 45 near Corinth has some snow accumulated on it. Decent accumulations were reported in DeSoto County just south of Memphis earlier this morning.

Light snow is being reported now at Iuka and Corinth.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for several counties along the Mississippi/Tennessee border in southern Tennessee and Northern Mississippi. 1/2 to 1 inch of snow is possible with some slippery spots on bridges and overpasses. MDOT is reporting some ice on bridges in Northern Mississippi.

Snow is increasing over Northwest Alabama generally along and north of US-278. A few flurries were just reported at Moulton. Temperatures are marginal, but a little wet bulb effect will be experienced as the precipitation begins. In this process, the temperatures may drop a few degrees as precipitation falls into the dry air, cooling it as it does. A few bursts of snow could whiten the ground and cause slippery spots of roads and bridges through the afternoon hours across the Tennessee Valley counties along and north of US-278 in Alabama.

South of US-278, anything that falls should be just sprinkles or light rain.

It does not appear that the precipitation will be able to reach I-20.
