Monday’s Weather Briefing Video — Cloudy & Cold Today; Back in the 60s by Thursday
*** We are on a holiday schedule this week. James Spann has the week off. There will only be one recorded video each day this week. ***
THE LAST WORK WEEK OF 2022
A shortwave passing through today will bring clouds to Central Alabama, and with those clouds, we’ll have a very small chance of a few sprinkles or snow flurries for the northern parts of the area. The rest of the area will be dry. No big deal as afternoon highs will be up in the upper 30s to the mid 40s.
Ridging with a southerly flow moves in to Central Alabama on Tuesday that will bring an increase in humidity levels and to those afternoon temperatures. Highs in the mid 40s to the mid 50s.
Wednesday will be another day with warmer temperatures as the ridge continues to pump in that warmer air. Afternoon highs in the mid 50s to the lower 60s.
A frontal system will be getting its act together off to our west on Thursday that will bring an increase of clouds to the area. At this point, we look to stay dry with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the 60s across the area will make you forget about the teens and single digits we saw this past weekend.
The cold front gets closer to Central Alabama on Friday which will bring more clouds and rain to the area. A few showers will be possible by the start of the afternoon, with rain likely by the early evening. The western half could pick up 0.50 to 1.00 inch of rain by midnight, while the eastern half of the area will be less. Highs in the 60s.
OUT WITH 2022, IN WITH 2023
It will be a wet end to 2022 as rain and some thunder will be likely throughout the day on Saturday. The front will continue moving through the area and rain will be heavy at times. 1.00 to 2.00 inches of rain will be possible. Much of the activity will be moving out by the evening and late night hours, but there will continue to be a chance of rain for the New Year’s celebrations at midnight. Highs in the mid 60s to the lower 70s.
After the shower chances end before sunrise, New Year’s Day looks to be very nice and mild across the area, as skies will mostly clear out, and we end up with mostly sunny skies. Afternoon highs in the lower 60s to the lower 70s.
