Forecast Update: No Major Changes, Very Cold Air for Christmas

| December 18, 2022 @ 11:17 am

Just finished tweaking the forecast, and it was already in pretty good shape. No change to the major ideas, clouds and rain return for Monday night and Tuesday, but mainly over the southern half of the state; upped rain chances Thursday night, moved the snow changeover to Friday morning, still no accumulation, bitter cold on tap for Holiday weekend.

Clear skies across Alabama this morning:

Temperatures are in the 30s North and 40s mostly over South Alabama.

Clouds will increase overnight with lows in the 20s. Monday’s highs will be in the 40s north of I-59 and 50s to the south. Clouds will increase late in the day with rain moving in to mainly South Alabama Monday night. There will be a few showers Tuesday.

Rain returns Thursday afternoon and night with a brief changeover to snow Friday morning. The only expected accumulations are over the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama. But the cold is the story, with temperatures falling all day into the teens with subzero wind chills. Lows Saturday morning will be in the single digits up North, 12F in Birmingham and 15F in Montgomery. Readings will not go above freezing between Friday morning and Sunday afternoon.
