Tropical Storm Lisa Forms; No Impacts to U.S.; Update on Season so Far
The disturbance in the Caribbean has gained enough organization to be designated as Tropical Storm Lisa.
Having said that it is still not very organized. Top winds are 40 mph. Moving west at 14 mph after slipping a little south of west since forming.
The storm is still expected to briefly become a hurricane late Wednesday before making landfall in Belize Wednesday evening.
Strong high pressure to the north will prevent any chance of the hurricane moving toward the Gulf of Mexico. It will dissipate over southern Mexico.
The stats for the Atlantic now look like this for the season. Average in parentheses through October 31.
Named storms 12 (13.4)
Named Storm Days 47 (64.5)
Hurricanes 5 (6.6)
Hurricane Days 19 (25.7)
Major Hurricanes 2 (3)
Major Hurricane Days 5.75 (7.1)
Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) 84.1 (115.6)
So while it has been a below-average year, we still had two very devastating storms (Fiona and Ian), which is a reminder that it just takes one.
