It’s Warming on Up in Central Alabama at Midday; Some Isolated Showers Out There
RADAR CHECK: As of 11:42 this morning, only a few isolated showers have popped up on radar, mainly east of I-65. One shower was located in northeastern Cullman County, another was over the central parts of Barbour County. A few more were dotting the skies over the northern parts of Clay and Randolph counties.
Temperatures were in the 80s across the area as of 11 am, with the warm spot being Tuscaloosa at 89 degrees. The cool spot was Auburn at 82 degrees. Birmingham was sitting at 88 degrees. Afternoon highs are still expected to top out in the upper 80s to the mid 90s across the area.
Other than that, the forecast hasn’t changed at all for today… we’ll be hot with a chance of isolated to scattered afternoon showers and storms. The better rain chances will be over the southeastern part of the area. For tonight, a lingering shower may continue into the evening and overnight hours somewhere over the southeastern parts of the area, while everyone else will be dry. Lows will be in the lower 70s across the area.
SUNDAY: No change for tomorrow, as it looks to be a dryer day as far as rain chances are concerned. A few isolated showers and storms are possible during the afternoon hours, but overall chances are rather slim. Highs will be in the lower to mid 90s.
THE TROPICS: It continues to be calm across the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, and the tropical Atlantic Ocean, and no new tropical systems are expected to form over the next five days.
ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY: 1945 — The first atomic bomb was exploded at Alamogordo, New Mexico. The weather was clear after a nighttime thunderstorm delayed the blast.
