Dry Through Wednesday; A Few Showers Thursday
**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; we are back on the two a day schedule tomorrow**
SUNNY MEMORIAL DAY: With a mostly sunny sky, temperatures are in the 86-90 degree range in most communities. Tonight will be mostly clear with a low in the 60s.
Dry weather continues through Wednesday with mostly sunny days and fair nights. We will bring in a chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms Thursday as a weak front approaches the state from the north. The rain won’t be especially heavy or widespread, and the sun will be out at times.
FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: We will mention just a few isolated showers Friday, and for now the weekend looks dry with a partly to mostly sunny sky both days. The high Friday will be in the mid 80s, and then in the 87-90 degree range over the weekend.
NEXT WEEK: The weather looks pretty quiet and mostly dry at this point, with just a few isolated afternoon showers on a few days. Afternoon highs will be close to 90 much of the week.
TROPICS: Hurricane Agatha is making landfall on the Pacific coast of Mexico this afternoon with sustained winds of 105 mph. The circulation will dissipate tomorrow inland, but the remnants will emerge into the Bay of Campeche Wednesday. The disturbance could regenerate in the southern Gulf of Mexico; NHC now gives it an 40 percent chance. If it develops into a tropical storm, the name will be Alex.
Greatest chance of U.S. impact will be across the Florida Peninsula (not the panhandle) this weekend, mostly as a big rain producer. The system will stay well south of the Alabama and Northwest Florida Gulf Coast (Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach), but it would bring an increased risk of rip currents.
The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet. The eastern Pacific hurricane season started May 15; the Atlantic season begins Wednesday (June 1).
ON THIS DATE IN 1988: Memorial Day heralded heavy snow in some of the mountains and higher passes of Wyoming, closing roads in Yellowstone Park. McDonald Pass, Montana was blanketed with eight inches of snow, while the temperature at Miles City, Montana soared to 94 degrees.
