Weather Xtreme — A Great Weekend; Dry Through Midweek

THIS WEEKEND: Today will be a near-perfect day across Central Alabama as we’ll have plenty of sunshine with afternoon highs reaching the lower to mid 80s across the area.

Not much change on Sunday, as we’ll continue to have an ample amount of sunshine. We may see an increase in clouds for the southern parts of the area as a disturbance along the Gulf Coast will be trying to move to the north. It will be a little warmer, with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

MEMORIAL DAY: Ridging will be in control of our weather pattern through midweek that will keep us dry. Memorial Day will be sunny and warm, with highs reaching the mid to upper 80s.

THE REST OF THE WORK WEEK: Same story on Tuesday, but we will be even warmer as highs will be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s.

And again on Wednesday… plenty of sunshine and hot. Highs will be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s.

The ridging starts to break down on Thursday and a front will be approaching from the north. This will bring a small chance of showers and thunderstorms to the forecast, mainly for the northern half of the area. Highs will be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s.

The front looks to lose a good bit of energy and moisture as it moves through Central Alabama on Friday, but we’ll keep a very small chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. Highs will be in the lower 80s to the lower 90s.

ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY – 1987: Thunderstorms produced torrential rains in Oklahoma and northern Texas. Lake Altus, OK, was deluged with nine inches of rain. Up to eight inches drenched northern Texas, and baseball size hail was reported north of Seminole and at Knickerbocker. Ten to 13 inch rains soaked central Oklahoma the last five days of May, resulting in an estimated 65 million dollars damage, and forcing several thousand persons to evacuate their homes, many by boat or helicopter.
