Midday Nowcast: Some Sun and Some Clouds

Lots of sunshine across Alabama again today with temperatures in the mid 80s for most locations this afternoon. We are seeing a few more clouds in the sky over East Alabama and we are watching the radar for a few pop-up showers/storms, but these will be hard to come by today as rain chances are less than 20%. Tonight will feature lows in the low 60s.

ACROSS THE USA: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, some severe, are expected for the central and eastern portions of the country today along and ahead of a cold front. Meanwhile, new record high temperatures are expected across the Southern Plains into portions of the Northeast through Saturday. Dry conditions remain across the western and southern High Plains where fire weather concerns continue.

WEEKEND WEATHER: We will mention a few more scattered showers storms will show up over the weekend, but again, nothing widespread or too heavy. Again, if you find yourself under one, consider yourself lucky. Otherwise, look for a partly to mostly sunny sky Saturday and Sunday with highs remaining in the mid to upper 80s. Chance of any one place seeing rain both days is around 20-30 percent range. We do note, the SPC does have the northern portion of Alabama under a “marginal risk” of severe storms Sunday. This would be for Sunday night as a complex of storms my drop into Alabama bring gusty winds late Sunday night.

NEXT WEEK: The upper ridge strengthens so the pattern looks to remain dry with no prospects of widespread or beneficial rain. Much of next week looks fairly quiet with only a few isolated showers around from time to time. Temperatures will increase with high in 90s most days; the hottest week of weather so far this year.
