Mother’s Day Brunch Update: A Perfect Afternoon

Skies are mostly sunny on this Mother’s Day Sunday across Alabama.

It was a nice start to the day, with 40s to lower 50s greeting the sun across the area. Russellville in Northwest Alabama was the state’s cold spot at 43F. It was 52F in Anniston and Tuscaloosa, and 51F at Birmingham.

A few clouds have been forming over eastern Alabama in some deeper moisture coming in from the east, but the further west they try to work, the tougher going they have found. So areas west of I-65 have been mostly clear, with just scattered cumulus clouds to the east.

No buildups, and no showers in store for Alabama today, and not for the better part of the next five days as high pressure will be in charge of our weather here in the state.

Not too hot today across Alabama with temperatures in the 70s heading for upper 70s to near 80 degrees this afternoon. To the west though, it is a different story, with 90s all across Texas, eastern New Mexico, and southern Oklahoma. Several record highs are expected to fall today across this region. It is 99F this hour in Wichita Falls, heading for a high of 106F, which will shatter their record for the date by 3 degrees.

The record-setting temperatures will spread eastward into Louisiana and Mississippi through midweek, but we should avoid any records here. It will be warm enough without setting any records, with highs topping out near 90F in many spots by midweek.

Rain showers will be scarce through the week, and now it even looks like most of the weekend. They could hold off til late Saturday night or Sunday it appears.
