Sunday Weather Xtreme — A Quiet Couple of Days Before Storms Invade on Tuesday
A COUPLE OF QUIET DAYS
We will have brilliant and beautiful weather today across Central Alabama, with mild temperatures. Highs will be in the upper 60s to the lower 70s underneath mainly sunny skies.
Monday will be a quiet and mild day as well, but clouds will begin to increase ahead of our next big weather maker. Highs will make it up into the lower to mid 70s.
TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY SEVERE THREAT
Latest model runs have the strong system moving through the area a little quicker than previous runs, with the action starting in the western portions of the area on Tuesday afternoon and progressing through Central Alabama during the overnight hours and into the morning hours on Wednesday, with us drying out after midday. Tuesday’s highs will be in the lower 70s to the lower 80s, and dropping back into the mid 60s to the mid 70s on Wednesday.
The SPC has an Enhanced Risk up for locations south and west of a line from Reform to Tuscaloosa to Uniontown. The standard Slight Risk is up outside of that stretching north and eastward to Sulligent to Montevallo to just west of Union Springs. A Marginal Risk is up for much of the rest of the area.
All modes of severe weather will be possible, starting in the western portions of the area as early as 1 pm Tuesday afternoon and coming to an end in the eastern parts of the area by 4 am Wednesday morning. We’ll also have to worry about localized flooding issues, as rainfall amounts with this system could reach 2-3 inches in some locations. Wind outside of thunderstorms will be quite gusty, at times reaching as high as 30-40 mph.
Higher resolution models will be in view today, so the picture will become much clearer, and we will be able to give you much better details for this system in later updates.
A QUIET END TO THE WORK WEEK & WEEKEND
Quiet weather returns on Thursday, but it will be cooler than the beginning of the work week. Skies will be mostly sunny, with highs in the lower 60s to the lower 70s. Same story on Friday, but just a tad cooler again. Highs in the upper 50s to the upper 60s.
We start warming back up for the weekend as we’ll have sunny skies on both days, with Saturday’s highs in the mid to upper 60s, and Sunday’s highs in the upper 60s to the mid 70s.
