At Midday — Plenty of Sunshine Today; Some Strong Storms Possible on Sunday
As of 11:13 this morning, we have mostly sunny skies across much of North/Central Alabama, except for a few clouds that have moved into the northwestern quarter of the area. Temperatures across Central Alabama were in the mid-40s to the mid-50s as of the 11 am roundup. Troy was the warm spot at 56 degrees. The cool spots were Gadsden and Haleyville at 44 degrees. Birmingham was at 46 degrees. Afternoon highs will make it up into the mid-50s to the lower 60s this afternoon underneath mostly sunny skies.
For tonight, clouds will be on the increase and showers will begin to move into the west and northwestern parts of the area during the overnight hours. If you are east of a line from Selma to Clanton to Gadsden, you will stay dry until after daybreak on Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the upper 30s to the upper 40s.
We are still looking at the possibility of a few stronger storms over much of the southern half of the area during the afternoon and evening hours. SPC continues to have a Marginal Risk for severe storms up for locations along and south of a line from Moundville to Verbena to Clayton for the threat of isolated wind gusts up to 60 mph and a small possibility of a brief tornado. Timing for the threat of stronger to severe storms across the risk area will be from 12 pm to 9 pm. Just have your umbrella on standby as rain and a few storms will be likely for the rest of the area throughout the day. It looks like the rain and storms will be out of the area around or just after midnight. Highs will be in the lower 60s to the lower 70s.
