Flash Flood Warning for Parts of Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Shelby, Talladega Co. Until 12:45 am Thursday

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…
East Central Bibb County in central Alabama…
North Central Chilton County in central Alabama…
Southern Shelby County in central Alabama…
Northwestern Coosa County in east central Alabama…
Southwestern Talladega County in east central Alabama…

* Until 1245 AM CST.

* At 1039 PM CST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
torrential rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing
or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Radar.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Three to four
inches of rain may occur in a relatively short period
of time.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…
Sylacauga, Calera, Montevallo, Brent, Columbiana, Centreville,
Jemison, Talladega Springs, West Blocton, Wilton, Oak Grove,
University Of Montevallo, Brierfield Ironworks Park, Lay Lake,
Ashby, Marble Valley, Fayetteville, Strickland Crossroads, Shelby
and Minooka Park.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
