Midday Nowcast: Cloudy and Mild
Temperatures remain well-above average with 60s at the midday hour, and these should top out in the low to mid-70s across Alabama this afternoon. We are seeing a mainly cloudy sky and most locations are remaining dry.
However, some showers are possible across Far North Alabama, as well as along the Gulf Coast this afternoon. Rain will increase in coverage tonight as a cold front approaches Alabama.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: UAB will take on BYU in the Independence Bowl tomorrow in Shreveport, Louisiana (2:30p CT kickoff on ABC 33/40)…the sky will be cloudy, and periods of rain are likely during the game. Temperatures will be falling through the 50s.
WEEKEND WEATHER: The cold front will move into the state tomorrow, bringing occasional showers statewide. There could some some rumbles of thunder at times, but with little dynamic forcing, severe storms are not expected. Rainfall totals look to be in the 1/2 to one inch range for a lot of the state. Highs tomorrow will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s. The front moves through and stalls along the Gulf Coast tomorrow night. Since we will be north of the front, Sunday will be much cooler despite a mainly sunny sky; look for highs in the 50s.
