Midday Nowcast: Sunny with a Nice Warm-Up

| December 13, 2021 @ 10:09 am

A chilly start to the day, but with abundant sunshine, temperatures are heading into the upper 50s and lower 60s this afternoon. For the rest of the week, an upper ridge builds in over the region, so not much change in our weather, but temperature will be on a warming trend. Expect a sunny sky tomorrow and Wednesday as well; with mid 60s tomorrow, and the high Wednesday afternoon will be near 70°. Moisture levels will begin to rise Thursday and Friday, so expect more clouds at times, and there could be a stray shower or two, but most of Alabama will remain dry. It will remain unseasonably mild with highs in the low to mid 70s both days.

WEEKEND WEATHER: The ridge begins to weaken, allowing a cold front to approach. The sky will be mostly cloudy Saturday and Sunday, and showers are likely statewide both days. Not a total wash-out, but be ready for occasional showers at any time. There will be some instability Saturday over the southern half of the state, so thunder is possible there, but severe storms are not expected. The high Saturday will be in the mid 60s, followed by low 60s Sunday. Some North Alabama communities won’t get out of the 50s Sunday afternoon.
