Midday Nowcast: Nice May Day

The clouds from the morning have given way to abundant sunshine across the state allowing from temperatures to head into the upper 60s and lower 70s this afternoon. Tonight will be mainly clear and chilly, as lows fall back into the 40s for most locations.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Dry days with sunshine in full supply highlight the forecast for Friday, Saturday, and most of Sunday. The high tomorrow will be in the mid-70s, closer to 80° Saturday, then low and mid-80s for Sunday. Sunday could feature a few more clouds late in the day, but these should be few and far between. Overall, a wonderful weekend of weather for Alabama.

WEATHER ON THIS DATE IN 1989: Thunderstorms developing along a warm front produced severe weather in the Southern Plains Region during the afternoon and night. A thunderstorm at Killeen, TX produced wind gusts to 95 mph damaging 200 helicopters at Fort Hood causing nearly 500 million dollars damage.
