A Brief Check on Our Weather at 5:15 pm
A line of showers and storms are starting to move into the northwest corner of the state and has caused NWS Huntsville to issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Colbert and Lauderdale counties for the threat of damaging wind and hail. This line is moving to the southeast at 35 mph.
These storms may stay strong for another hour or so, but will begin to weaken as the sun starts to set. Gusty winds and small hail may be possible in the stronger storms and could possibly reach severe criteria as we see with the incoming storms.
There is a Marginal Risk for severe storms for much of North Alabama, including the cities of Florence, Russellville, Athens, Decatur, Hartselle, Cullman, Huntsville, Scottsboro, and Guntersville. The risk also stretches into the northern parts of Marion, Winston, and Blount counties.
The line of storms should stay north of the I-59 corridor and the potential for strong to severe storms will come to an end by 8 pm in the eastern parts of North Alabama. We’ll keep you posted.
