Midday Nowcast: Intervals of Sunshine

The weak front has dropped south to near the Gulf Coast this afternoon, and for the most part that is where the shower activity is today. This afternoon is featuring more clouds than sun, and temperatures are generally in the upper 70s. Tonight, will feature passing clouds and comfortable temperatures with lows in the 50s.

WARM WEEKEND WEATHER: Tomorrow will be dry and a very nice day of weather with a good supply of sunshine and highs near 80 degrees. Sunday will feature increasing clouds and warm temperatures again in the 80s. By late afternoon, rain and storms over Mississippi will move into West Alabama, with more widespread rain and storms for all of the state Sunday night.

We note the SPC has defined a “slight risk” (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms for area near the Mississippi border Sunday night, with a “marginal risk” as far east as Moulton, Vance, Pine Hill, and Gulf Shores.

The main threat with the storms Sunday night will come from strong gusty winds and small hail. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out, but isn’t likely. The rain could be heavy at times.
