Colder Air Arrives Tonight; Dry Tomorrow/Friday
THIS AFTERNOON: Clouds cover much of Alabama this afternoon, although there are thin spots in the overcast over the southern half of the state. Temperatures are mostly in the 50s, and there are patches of light rain and drizzle on radar. Precipitation ends this evening, and the sky will clear late tonight as drier air works into the state behind a cold front.
TOMORROW/FRIDAY: The weather will be dry tomorrow and Friday with cold mornings; the low early tomorrow will be close to 30, and then we drop well down into the 20s early Friday morning. With a mostly sunny sky the high tomorrow will be in the upper 40s, followed by mid 50s Friday.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: We will see some sun Saturday morning, but clouds move in during the afternoon ahead of the next weather maker for the state. The day will be fairly pleasant with a high in the low 60s… then rain moves in Saturday night and early Sunday. Models continue to show no surface based instability, so severe storms are not expected, and there probably won’t be much thunder. Rain amounts should be around 1/2 inch, and the rain will likely be over by mid-morning Sunday. Clouds will likely linger through much of the day Sunday with a high in the 60-64 degree range.
NEXT WEEK: Monday will be partly sunny and colder with a high in the upper 50s, then we expect dry, seasonal conditions through mid-week. Rain and possibly a few thunderstorms return by Thursday night and Friday. ON THIS DATE IN 1989: Bitter cold air gripped most of Alaska during January 1989. Tanana, near Fairbanks, saw a low temperature of 76 degrees below zero on this day. The high for the day was 60 degrees below zero. With an average temperature of 68 degrees below zero, Tanana saw an average temperature of nearly sixty degrees below normal.
