Concerning Friday Night High School Football

| October 6, 2020 @ 10:58 am

Many high school football coaches are having to make a decision today concerning their games Friday night. This is what it looks like now; of course, the forecast can easily change as Hurricane Delta continues to evolve.

*Delta is expected to be near the Louisiana coast Friday night as a category two hurricane.

*For the northern two-thirds of Alabama, Friday night will be cloudy with showers around. Not a total “wash-out”, but showers are likely. Rain amounts Friday night won’t be especially heavy; the really big rain mass associated with Delta will come after midnight Friday night, and especially during the day Saturday. It will not rain at every high school stadium.

*Rain will be more widespread and heavier across the southern third of Alabama Friday night, especially south of U.S. 84.

*Winds over North and Central Alabama Friday night will be in the 7-14 mph range, and 12-25 mph over South Alabama. However, parts of Mobile and Baldwin counties will see winds of 20-40 mph with higher gusts possible.

*I expect little, if any lightning over the state Friday night, with the exception of Mobile and Baldwin counties.

*Concerning Thursday night, we expect dry conditions over the northern half of the state, with showers over South Alabama. Nothing especially heavy, and probably little, if any lightning.
